Orange, the colour of sunshine, oranges, and, of course, the national pride of the Netherlands. But this vibrant hue offers so much more in the world of makeup. In this article, I’ll guide you through the meaning of orange and how to incorporate it into your everyday or special looks. Plus, we’ll explore which eye colours pair best with a touch of orange.

The Meaning of Orange: A Colour Full of Energy and Warmth

Orange is a colour that evokes many emotions and associations. It’s a striking hue often linked to:

  • Warmth and Cosiness: Orange reminds us of the warmth of the sun, a crackling fire, or a comforting cup of hot chocolate. It gives a sense of comfort and security.
  • Energy and Vitality: Orange is a lively colour that radiates energy. It’s associated with strength, enthusiasm, and a positive outlook on life.
  • Happiness and Joy: Orange is a colour that makes people feel happy. It’s often used to create a cheerful and festive atmosphere.
  • Creativity: Orange stimulates creativity and is frequently used in artistic expression.
  • Autumn: Orange is the colour of falling leaves and pumpkins, often connected to the autumn season and harvest time.
The Psychological Meaning of Orange:
  • Stimulating: Orange is a stimulating colour that excites the senses. It can increase appetite and boost energy.
  • Social: Orange is seen as a social colour that brings people together.
  • Optimistic: Orange exudes optimism and confidence.

In the world of makeup, orange is often used to create a bold, cheerful, and energetic look.

Which Eye Colour Suits Orange Best?

Orange is a versatile colour that complements a variety of eye colours. Here are some suggestions:

  • Blue Eyes: Orange and blue are a stunning contrast. An orange eyeshadow can really make blue eyes pop, creating a vibrant and eye-catching look.
  • Green Eyes: Orange and green are complementary colours, meaning they enhance each other. An orange eyeshadow can make green eyes stand out beautifully.
  • Brown Eyes: Orange can accentuate the warmth of brown eyes. Opt for a slightly muted orange shade for a more natural look.

How to Use Orange in Your Makeup

There are countless ways to incorporate orange into your makeup routine:

  • Eyeshadow: A subtle hint of orange in the crease or a bold orange eye look – both are possible.
  • Blush: A peachy blush with an orange undertone gives a healthy, radiant glow.
  • Lipstick: An orange lipstick can make a bold statement. Choose a shade that complements your skin tone.
  • Nail Polish: Orange nail polish is a fun way to add a pop of colour to your outfit.

Together with my friend Claudia, we decided to create a complete orange look. After making an orange lipstick and orange eyeshadow/blush ourselves, I then applied it to Ivonne, and wow—what a beautiful result! Ivonne’s blue eyes popped off the screen. Orange truly brings out the vibrancy of blue eyes, creating a dramatic and striking contrast. What do you think of the result?

The Products I Created

I have developed an “Orange Allure” blush and used a mineral-pressed orange shade for my eyeshadow. For these products, I blended a selection of base powders with micas to achieve the perfect colour.

Here’s a glimpse into the versatile range of shades I’ve developed to suit everyone:

  • SunGlow: A bronzer that naturally enhances skin tone for a sun-kissed look.
  • Orange Allure: A vibrant, shimmering orange shade that works beautifully as an eyeshadow, especially for blue and green eyes.
  • Rosy Radiance: A soft pink bronzer for a natural, healthy flush.
  • Peach Perfect: A delicate peach shade for a fresh, youthful glow.
  • Soft Sunshine: A highlight bronzer that delivers a radiant, luminous finish.

We also experimented with two orange lipsticks. The lighter LS10 is perfect for those with cooler undertones, while the deeper LS30 is the colour Ivonne wore on her lips. To complete the look, I also made an orange lip liner and an orange lip gloss to create the perfect pout.
